An iOS 4 disappointment

It seems that Robey Pointer, one of the Twitter guys, has made some changes to Apple’s monospaced Menlo font. He calls the new(ish) font Mensch and has released it for all to use.1 Let’s take a look. With music and video recommendations, I'm going to provide both iTunes Store and Amazon links because the product's the same no matter which ecosystem you prefer. Head Hunters is one of my favorite albums, and is probably Herbie Hancock's most accessible work. The opening track, Chameleon, is the standout—15-plus minutes of Sly Stone funk pushed through a jazz filter—but the other tracks are great, too. Watermelon Man, for example, is Herbie covering himself, reworking a song he'd written and recorded a decade earlier and which had become a jazz standard. ☒

I own both of the two major "Photoshop Lites" for the Mac: Pixelmator and Acorn. Acorn is what I use. I like the way it looks, I like the way it works, and I like its programmability. Because I'm not an image editing pro, I appreciate an interface that makes simple things simple. And when I need to do something that isn't simple, Flying Meat's documentation and tutorials are especially helpful. ☒
