The notable Afghanistan news stories this month were that we’ve been negotiating with an impostor and that we’ve broken the Soviets’ record for sustained futility. Not so well-reported was that the military death rate didn’t drop off the way it did this time last year. Iraq, at least, is staying low.

No improvement in Afghanistan (not that I was expecting any): We’re killing 1-2 Americans every day in a war that hasn’t had a purpose in years. Did a single candidate campaign to stop this? And Iraq is bumping along more or less as it has been for a year:
