Gary Moore and the Kings

Twitter was alive this morning with news that guitarist Gary Moore had died. Every tweet described him as Thin Lizzy’s guitar player, which was news to me, although I figured Phil Lynott would overshadow anyone.

Turns out that Moore’s two or three stints with Thin Lizzy didn’t include the periods that generated the work most familiar to Americans. He didn’t play on “Whiskey in the Jar” or “Jailbreak” or “The Boys Are Back in Town.” But he was a pretty good guitarist, and had excellent taste in music and collaborators.

Freddie King’s “The Stumble.”

“Stormy Monday” with Albert King.

“The Thrill is Gone” with B.B. King.

YouTube is wonderful, isn’t it?
