iPhone calculator pi bug fixed

Back at the end of August, I wrote a post describing a nasty bug in the iPhone’s scientific calculator (the extended calculator you get when you hold the iPhone in landscape mode). Under certain circumstances, the value of pi would be ignored. The example I gave was

2 × π + 5 =

which would return an answer of 7 instead of 11.283…

I’m happy to say that the iPhone calculator now works correctly—on this example and on the others given in that post.

The fix must have come with the iPhone 2.1 software update. It’s taken me this long to discover it because I stopped using the Apple-supplied calculator shortly after discovering the bug. I’m now a PCalc man and happy to have made the switch, even after Apple’s bug fix. Look for a detailed PCalc review here in a couple of weeks or so.
