We’re handy!

I noticed this morning that I’ve gotten some hits coming from 43 Folders. Since I subscribe to the 43 Folders feed, I this site hadn’t been mentioned in a blog post, so where was the link coming from? Ah, Merlin’s “siderail,” where he keeps his recent del.icio.us bookmarks. He found my currency/temperature conversion card and declared it “Handy.” Handy was exactly what I was aiming for, so I’m happy to hear he thinks so. My wife and daughter—or, as I like to think of them, my beta testers—will be returning from vacation in a few days, and I’ll learn whether they agree.

One thing I don’t like about the card is that it’s written in PostScript. I have enough experience with PostScript that it’s no big deal for me to modify the charts to handle other conversions, but I feel certain PS’s unusual syntax will turn off other potential users. I also think direct generation of a PDF would make it more useful for others. I’m thinking I could work up a Ruby version using PDF:Writer that would be less threatening. It would give me some Ruby practice, too.
